Nine men arrested for trafficking 44 kilos of heroin to Chicago :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Metro & Tri-State: "Nine men face federal drug charges after allegedly being caught bringing 44 kilograms of heroin to the Chicago-area from Mexico.
Working with Chicago cops and suburban police departments in Aurora and Oak Lawn, the Drug Enforcement Agency also seized tens of thousands of dollars in cash, according to complaints filed by the U.S. Attorney’s office.
The bust was part of ‘Project Deliverance’ — a 22-month, national operation targeting Mexican drug traffickers in the U.S. that has resulted in more than 2,200 arrests, Attorney General Eric Holder said at a press conference in Washington today.
The charged men include Antonio “Gordo” Figueroa, 23, of Chicago, who allegedly picked up a truck containing 37 kilos of heroin from a pharmacy parking lot at Armitage and Keeler on May 28.
Agents probing Figueroa seized $67,000 cash and a gun in the bust, the complaint alleges."
