Babies of ‘drug mules’ repatriated from China | Manila Bulletin: "in China have been repatriated to the Philippines, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday.Two infants whose Filipino mothers were caught and convicted for drug-related offenses rs Affairs’ (DFA-OUMWA) Enrico Fos said the babies of drug convicts Rosabeth Villapando and Karren Andojar arrived on Tuesday night from Guangzhou Province, China.
Villapando’s baby is 11 months old while Andojar’s is 14 months old. They were welcomed home by Fos and representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), as well as the babies’ relatives in Manila.
“While their respective mothers remain in detention and could not be helped at the moment, the babies needed to be saved from the horrible experience of being in prison,” Fos said.
Andojar and Villapando are currently serving life imprisonment in China for serving as drug “mules,” or drug smugglers. The women were arrested by Chinese authorities in Youyiguan Port, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in separate occasions on September 26 and 27, 2008"
